Penn 349 Master Mariner W/Cortez Conversions Frame Made In The USA
The Penn 349 is an interesting reel. It was, and still is, a favorite amongst Salmon Fisherman. Mainly used for trolling with wire line. The 349 is also a great Rockfishing reel, especially this one because of the 2nd E-Lever, which allows you to reel backward when disengaged. This could help keep your dropper loop rig from getting snagged on the bottom when drifting over a reef. Being a narrow reel with an average gear ratio, simplifies reeling up that double hook up from the botton by guiding your line back and forth with your fingers easily and not exerting too much energy turning the handle. This reel was just serviced by the best Reel Service Tech in Orange County, California. He installed Carbon Drags and re-greased every moving part with the appropriate grease thickness required. He also shimmed the gear sleeve to alleviate the handle from moving back and forth, resulting in a much smoother retrieve. I added the frame & crossbar, the clamp & hardware, the 2 e-levers, and the handle & knob. There is very little boat rash on this reel. Mainly on the chrome parts. It has a great freespool and a nice loud clicker. The e-levers are the opposite of modern reels. Back is in gear, and forward is out of gear. This reel turned out super unigue. The one thing I couldn't find was an aluminum spool, but the stock metal spool is in excellent condition. That will also save on the total price of this reel. It looks cool, and it's ready to go.

This 349 turned out very cool. It's a little heavier than the last 349 I built because of the metal spool, but the freespool is great. If you're ready for some deep drop fishing, this is the reel for you. This Master Mariner works better now than when it was brand new.
